MADDER THAN A FULL MOON DOG (2013) - INTERVIEW

I interviewed Deborah Louise Robinson, the producer/director of MADDER THAN A FULL MOON DOG, the upcoming 'Rockumentary' from Starjack Entertainment. Here's what she had to say about this candid, behind the scenes look at a busy heavy metal festival. Read on to find out where to buy the film - and how to have the chance to be part of it!

THERE ARE MANY MUSIC DVDS OUT THERE, WHAT IS IT THAT SETS MADDER THAN A FULL MOON DOG APART FROM THE REST?

This one won’t focus so much on the music, but rather the fans of the music. Heavy metal fans are the most diverse and dedicated group of people in the world – they come from all walks of life and span generations, and that’s what’s interesting. That guy sat at the desk opposite you at work, the bald guy with the suit and tie– do you know what he does on a weekend? Could it be that he dons an AC/DC t-shirt, drinks copious amounts of alcohol, and thrusts his devil horns in the air in a heavy metal salute? Heavy metal fans
are nothing if not surprising!

Madder Than a Full Moon Dog will be so much more than just a music video –the film will include exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, candid band interviews, the fans, the music, the madness and mayhem – everything that goes on centre stage, and back stage at the Full Moon Dog Festival 2012 will go into this film – no holds barred, balls out, heavy metal at its very finest!

SO, WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DOCUMENT THE MADNESS AND MAYHEM OF THE FULL MOON DOG FESTIVAL?

The same thing that inspired me my whole life, my brother, Jay-Jay Winter, founder member and front man of rock band, ASOMVEL. The festival was created to keep his music and memory alive, and this film is just an extension of that. He loved the genre, he loved the fans – and he would love this film. It is in his honour that this film is being made.

Couple that with the hilarity of 2011’s festival – things that shouldn’t have been funny, but just were, and the fantastic line-up of bands, and I knew that this year, we had to make a film – it’d be rude not to…..

HOW REAL CAN WE EXPECT THIS FILM TO BE? CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY. OR WILL ANY MISHAPS AND HITCHES BE KEPT WELL AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC EYE?

Even the bad and the ugly are good when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll! There’ll be nowhere to hide – if it happens we’ll catch it on camera – and we’ll be looking out for those mishaps and disasters because no doubt about it, they’ll make for excellent viewing!

HOW SCARY DO YOU FIND THIS CHALLENGE? AFTER ALL, THERE CAN BE NO SCRIPT, AND THERE AREN’T MANY THINGS AS UNPREDICTABLE AS A BIG CROWD OF HEAVY METAL FANS!

I fear nothing! Though I cannot speak for the crew…….

Actually I like the unpredictability of it – this film is a fun one for me to make, because there are no rules….or at least, I’m the one making the rules.

DO YOU THINK THE PROSPECT OF BEING FEATURED ON THE MADDER THAN A FULL MOON DOG DVD COUPLED WITH SUCH A GREAT LINE-UP WILL MAKE THIS YEAR’S FULL MOON DOG FESTIVAL A RUNAWAY SUCCESS?

I expect that the festival, much like last year’s, would be a success with or without the film – it is my hope that The Cockpit in Leeds will be crammed to the rafters with the best of the best of heavy metal fans – and yes, I think the fact we’re shooting a film that night will make the tickets sell that little bit faster….

I KNOW THE FANS ARE OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE, THE TICKET PRICE REFLECTS YOUR PROMISE TO MAKE A FESTIVAL FOR EVERYONE. WAS THIS A CONSIDERATION WHEN DECIDING TO MAKE THE DVD? OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE PEOPLE AROUND THE GLOBE WHO, FOR WHATEVER REASON CANNOT MAKE IT TO THE FESTIVAL – IS THIS DVD FOR THEM?

Well, I’d hate to think that people will sit at home and ‘wait for the DVD’ because it really is important for people to get off their backsides and come out to support these bands, and to remember Jay – but of course there are people who are genuinely unable to attend, and it is important that they get see what a great festival this is. Jay gave his all for the genre, and I want to ensure that his name is synonymous with good times and great music – so any way I can ensure his memorial festival reaches a wider audience can only be a good thing. Additionally the proceeds from the sale of the DVD will go toward making the festival bigger and better in future years – because we always want to ensure the festival is affordable to the fans. Jay would want that.

SO, I GOTTA ASK – HOW DO I GET MY COPY OF THE DVD?

Get yourself to Full Moon Dog 2012 – you’ll have a great time, get to see some fantastic bands, maybe become a movie star! You can pre-order your DVD on the night, or by visiting www.madderthanafullmoondog.com and the first 100 people to pre-order a DVD will be credited on the film as “The following people have been officially declared, Madder Than a Full Moon Dog” – so don’t hang around!
